Vienna Art History Museum
20-minute walk from the Hotel Papageno.
Vienna's Art History Museum was opened in 1891 together with the Natural History Museum across the square, a building which is almost completely identical. Emperor Franz Joseph I commissioned construction of the buildings in 1858 as part of his planned expansion of the city.
These two buildings, located on the Ringstrasse, reflect the style of the Italian Renaissance and were built to designs by Gottfried Semper and Karl Freiherr von Hasenauer in the years 1872 to 1891.
