Vienna Secession
8-minute walk from the Hotel Papageno.
The Vienna Secession was founded on April 3, 1897, by Gustav Klimt, Koloman Moser, Josef Hoffmann, Joseph Maria Olbrich, Max Kurzweil, Josef Engelhart, Ernst Stöhr, Wilhelm List and other artists as a split-off from the Vienna Künstlerhaus. These artists rejected the latter institution's prevailing conservatism and traditional-historical view of art.
They patterned themselves after the Berlin and Munich Secessions. The first exhibition took place in 1898.
